Mr. Cohen is a highly regarded senior entertainment industry executive with over 25 years of experience with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), arguably the most iconic brand in the history of Hollywood. Prior to leaving MGM, Mr. Cohen had performed in a corporate leadership role as MGM’s Senior Executive Vice President while simultaneously serving as the Chief Operating Officer for MGM’s Motion Picture Group. During his tenure at MGM, Mr. Cohen rose through the corporate ranks to eventually become responsible for overseeing the company’s financial and strategic planning and business development activities, treasury functions (including the structuring of over $10 billion in various company film funds, credit facilities, and project financings). In his corporate leadership role, Mr. Cohen was involved in several transactions including the valuation and purchase of both Orion Pictures and the Polygram film libraries. He was also involved in structuring a minority interest purchase of the Rainbow channels (AMC, Bravo and IFC) as well as launching MGM’s 100% owned channel business.
As Chief Operating Officer of MGM’s Motion Picture Group, Mr. Cohen structured and led the negotiations on several multi-year, multi-picture co-production/co-financing and distribution arrangements with other studios. Included among these deals are a recently completed 5-year, 10-plus motion picture arrangement with Sony Pictures (including the production and distribution arrangements for the James Bond and Girl With the Dragoon Tattoo franchises); a 5-year worldwide home video distribution arrangement with Fox; and a $1 billion deal with Warner Bros. for the production and release of two films for The Hobbit. Mr. Cohen then continued to serve as the primary liaison with these studio partners after the transactions closed. Also while serving as Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Cohen was responsible for overseeing all of the business and operational functions of the Motion Picture Group, including development and overhead budgets, production budgets, greenlight analytics, business affairs, all talent deal negotiations and physical and post production for all films. Mr. Cohen was also responsible for the Stargate television franchise and the production of three separate Stargate series (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Universe) as well as two direct-to-video Stargate movies. Mr. Cohen also started and ran MGM’s low budget and movie of the week production business, producing 17 movies.
Mr. Cohen is also well credentialed academically, having received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and his BA from Occidental College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude.
Philip Poulidis currently serves as GM of the Wireless, Automotive & IoT Business Units at Marvell Semiconductor in California. He is Chairman at Kwilt, member of the Advisory Boards at Anchorfree, Lark and Peel Technologies. Philip has extensive international experience in the digital media, semiconductor, software and mobile segments. Philip has served in various executive roles at Morega Systems (as, founder/CEO and Chairman), Intellon (IPO 2007), GlobaspanVirata (acquired by Conexant), Interlog (acquired by PSINet). He received marketing management certification from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelors degree from Ryerson University and has been granted several patents.
