As Chief Operating Officer of MGM’s Motion Picture Group, Mr. Cohen structured and led the negotiations on several multi-year, multi-picture co-production/co-financing and distribution arrangements with other studios. Included among these deals are a recently completed 5-year, 10-plus motion picture arrangement with Sony Pictures (including the production and distribution arrangements for the James Bond and Girl With the Dragoon Tattoo franchises); a 5-year worldwide home video distribution arrangement with Fox; and a $1 billion deal with Warner Bros. for the production and release of two films for The Hobbit. Mr. Cohen then continued to serve as the primary liaison with these studio partners after the transactions closed. Also while serving as Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Cohen was responsible for overseeing all of the business and operational functions of the Motion Picture Group, including development and overhead budgets, production budgets, greenlight analytics, business affairs, all talent deal negotiations and physical and post production for all films. Mr. Cohen was also responsible for the Stargate television franchise and the production of three separate Stargate series (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Universe) as well as two direct-to-video Stargate movies. Mr. Cohen also started and ran MGM’s low budget and movie of the week production business, producing 17 movies.
